Did I Mention I'm Crazy?

Once I’ve made a decision, you can’t stop me!

The problem is that I still can’t make my mind up what to do with this beautiful new statue from First 4 Figures… We already own their first Amaterasu and Shiranui is on her way. But this new Ammy is so pretty! Arghhh

Almost four years ago, First 4 Figures released the first entry in the Okami line for pre-order; Amaterasu. Now, all those years later, they also have a 1/4th scale resin Shiranui, a life size resin bust from Amaterasu and two PVC Amaterasu. When the PVC debuted, they made it clear that the resin version in the same pose would follow. The exclusive was also pretty much given with their love of light-up exclusives. I wasn’t interested.
But what we didn’t know, was that they would have a definitive edition up their sleeves. And what an amazing edition that is!

Ōkami (Japanese: 大神, lit. “great god” or “great spirit”) is an action-adventure video game developed by Clover Studio and published by Capcom. It was released for PlayStation 2 in 2006 in Japan and North America, and in 2007 in Europe and Australia.

Set in classical Japan, Ōkami combines Japanese mythology and folklore to tell the story of how the land was saved from darkness by the Shinto sun goddess, named Amaterasu, who took the form of a white wolf. It features a sumi-e-inspired cel-shaded visual style and the Celestial Brush, a gesture-system to perform miracles. The gameplay is modeled on The Legend of Zelda, one of director Hideki Kamiya’s favorite series.

Ōkami is now considered to be one of the best video games ever made, as well as an example of video games as an art form, aided by the improved art details and graphics resolutions.

Now that we’re done with the short history lesson, on to the most important thing! Unlike their first Amaterasu, which had a semi-static pose, this highly detailed statue is striking a dynamic pose, as if descending from the Celestial Plain. While the original had a base featuring a meadow, this ones base design is inspired by the smoke, foliage, and flower buds that trail behind Ammy the faster she sprints. The actual base itself is the symbol of the Sunrise brush technique when performed successfully. While tasteful, it’s not completely to my liking. On the other hand, it is minimal and I do like that. Just like with the rest of this statue, I’m conflicted. But one thing’s for sure, she is beautiful!

The statue isn’t small with its 44 cm (17.5 inch) in height and 36 cm (14 inch) in depth and width. Of course, this coupled with the fact that this is a resin statue, handmade and limited, both the regular and the exclusive will set you back 534.99 USD. That is, unless you pre-order directly from the First 4 Figures website! They are running a Early Bird pricing now which means double reward points and a discount of 10%! This means that you’ll pay 481.48 USD (excluding shipping) if you place a pre-order before the 3rd of February 2020, 4pm HKT. This replaces their previous pre-order incentive called Signature Edition (which replaced Day One, which replaced Zero Hour) and honestly, it’s by far the best incentive they’ve had so far.

Like I mentioned before, the exclusive version does indeed feature a light-up. Both the Divine Instrument, the Divine Retribution, and the base, inspired by the Sunrise brush technique, incorporates LED technique and produces a pretty lighted scenery. Like most of their recent releases, the price point for both the regular and exclusive is the same, hoping to incite people to choose the exclusive over the regular.

The estimated release date for this pretty wolf is slated for Q1 2021, so that, combined with the fact that F4F offers interest-free payment plans, should give us all enough time to save up for this divine creature.

So let’s look at some pictures! But don’t forget to scroll down as we aren’t done just yet!

Like I said, we’re not done yet! First 4 Figures wouldn’t be F4F if they didn’t have something special to surprise us with. And man, did they!

I wasn’t planning on getting this statue because we already have a great pairing with the original and the Shiranui statue that is on her way. I love Okami but one display piece (or pair) is enough for me. Already got way too much to actually display one day so I’ve got to watch what we’re buying. But then, Alex (owner of F4F) showed the definitive edition of the Divine Descent statue. I was absolutely blown away!

The Definitive Edition has everything the Exclusive has to offer and more! You can actually swap out the Divine Retribution for three vastly different Divine Instruments! And they all light up! Well, not all… Let me explain.

First up, we have the Blade of Kusanagi, a green sword-shaped weapon, which they actually used as a variant for the previously released PVC version of this statue. Secondly, we have the Devout Beads, a circle of prayer-like beads that swirl around. And lastly, the Infinity Judge, a weird disc shaped weapon. The last one doesn’t light up but does glow in the dark. Also very pretty. The inclusion of these three weapons next to the original Instrument, really make it difficult for me to turn this beauty down…

Of course, the price does reflect the fact that this one comes with so many extras. It will cost you, excluding shipping, 684.99 USD to own this wonderful canine. But, as with the other two version, they also offer the Early Bird discount for this version which means double reward points and a 10% discount. That brings it down 616.49 USD* and extra points to use on a future purchase as long as you order before February 3rd 2020, 4 PM HKT.

So what say you? Do I try to sell my original Ammy (and Shiranui) and go for this one? Do I let this one go and keep it to my (not-so-) dynamic duo? Or do I just act like my usual crazy self and order it anyway?
Decisions, decisions, decisions…
I’m sooooo not good with them…
