    I’m Ikaryas, I’m the one who came up with this idea and decided on the name given to this little project. Did I Mention I’m Crazy comes forth out of the strange looks we get when people see our collection.

Did I Mention I'm Crazy?

Fishing is boring, unless you catch an actual fish, and then it is disgusting.

Unless it’s something as pretty as this piece of art. Of course, I wouldn’t try actually eating this one…

It is rare these days that I stumble upon something new that I instantly love. Mostly it has to do with the fact that I rarely have time to stalk the internet as I once did. But it somehow did happen.

I was reading the Sideshow Collectibles newsletter when my eye was drawn to this wonderful little steampunk-y fish. It is absolutely lovely, don’t you think? I love the mash-up of the beauty of a veil-tail and the harshness of machine parts that they applied for this little one. The Carassius Auratus Large Statue come in three colors; white, black and red, but the last one is my absolute favorite. I love this color-scheme. Each of the variants are limited to 300 pieces worldwide*, made out of resin and 13″ (~33 cm) in height, 11″ (~28 cm) in width and 8″ (~20 cm) in depth.

* Odd thing, SSC’s website states an ES of 300 for the red one but the company’s website says 500. Copy paste error?

So, who made this wonderful art piece? To be honest, I’m not too sure… The company is called Manas SUM;

SUM is the English translation of the Chinese character “和” which signifies collaboration, unification and harmony in the Chinese culture. And, it has been a part of our core vision for building a collaborative platform for the global art market. Since we started the SUM product line in 2016, we have attracted some of the most talented artists working with us in delivering masterpieces with outstanding craftsmanship and extreme attention to details. Today, we are the leading force in artistic work collaboration with one of the largest collection of modern art works in China, Japan and other parts of Asia. We are proud to extend and share our passion for art with the creative community in North America.

So… It’s a company that works with several different artists to bring their visions to life. Which explains the vastly different pieces they offer. I wouldn’t buy most of them but there are some pieces I do love. Greatly. And look! They even have a goldfish in this style. So cute.

The only downside, if you can call it that, is that these do not run cheap. With a price tag of 586 USD (~530 EUR), not including shipping, taxes or import fees, these are some expensive fishies… The question then remains, are they worth it? I don’t know the company and thus also not the quality of their products, but at least art-wise, it’s a safe bet. Are they (worth it)? That’s something you have to decide for yourself. As for me…

I’m off. Going to look if a local retailer will carry these… Wish me luck!
