Did I Mention I'm Crazy?

I will give you a warrior’s death!

Like I said before, it’s been awfully quite lately. Of course, partly this could be the result of us being online less because we’re trying to cut down on our expenses. Naturally, this never lasts long. Especially when Pop Culture Shock announces a new statue available for pre-order!

The last Mortal Kombat statues that were released as pre-order were Smoke and Sub-Zero (which apparently I didn’t preview… weird). They were of course sold out in a record time back in May/June so I was glad that I’ve stayed up to be sure to pre-order them. Finally, we’re getting someone else then one of the ninja’s namely Goro! And he’s awesome!

For those that don’t know who he is, or just can’t seem to put their finger on it, I’ve provided a little Wikipedia part:

Goro is one of the original characters debuting in the first Mortal Kombat arcade game as the sub-boss, and later appeared as the sub-boss of Mortal Kombat 4 (only available on home consoles). He first became playable in the Game Boy port of Mortal Kombat.
He appeared as a four-armed Shokan warrior who had been the champion of the Mortal Kombat tournament for nine generations, remaining undefeated for 500 years. Goro is among Shao Kahn’s favorite warriors and is well known for his power and brutality. Goro helped the emperor grow closer to dominating Earthrealm, but he lost at the tenth while fighting against Liu Kang, who later defeated the sorcerer Shang Tsung.

Interesting isn’t it. What’s also interesting is the choices Jerry made for this statue. First of, the pose is straight from MK9 (although he doesn’t have his armor on) and the base is a simple black one like the rest of the Klassic line. Also, the pose they eventually chose, is a more museum one like the rest of the Klassics. I suspect that the originally sculpted him for the modern line but since that was canned, adapted him to fit the Klassic line instead. It doesn’t really bother me, I prefer ecstatic over correctness. Mind you, generally. If it’s an uncharacteristically change, then it’s something else.

Regarding the statue itself. We both LOVE IT! Sculpted by John Cleary (who did some of our favorite statues and also the previously previewed Dhalsim), this massive beast of a warrior stands 24inch (over 60cm) tall and looks fantastic. John really did an awesome job bringing one of the most iconic MK bosses to live. He’s big and menacing, just how he’s meant to be. He’s also expensive which isn’t a good point since we’re really trying to cut down our purchases. It’s 450$ excluding shipping for the regular and 10 bucks more for the exclusive that has an interchangeable head. And, like usual, the exclusive will only be available at the PCS website and with the low ES (edition size) of a measly 150 pieces worldwide, I’d advice you to not think about it too long. Both versions also come with a signed certificate of authenticity.

Here’s a bit of standard information just like last times:

Payment:

  • A non-refundable deposit of $100,- USD with the balance of $460,- (ex) / $450,- (reg) USD (plus shipping) due once the item is ready for delivery.
  • Payment plan of 4 payments of $437,- (ex) / $428,- (reg) – 5% discount
  • A 13% (ex) / 12% (reg) discount for a non-refundable pre-payment in full. Your total will be $399,- (ex) / 396,- (reg) USD with shipping due when the item is ready for delivery.

Pre-order begins at 3PM Pacific Standard Time on Monday October 21st. More details (and pictures) can be found on the official site. We’re still not sure if we’re going to order him. He’s expensive as hell and huge but also extremely well done and just plain awesome… Another definite hit by Pop Culture Shock!
