Did I Mention I'm Crazy?

That cursed beast liked the taste of me so well he’s followed me ever since

Good Mooooooooooooorning Neverland! Tie down the main mast, mateys. ‘Cause here he is, the cunning kingfish, the bad barracuda! A man so deep, he’s almost unfathomable. A man so quick, he’s even fast asleep. Now lets give him a very big hand, ’cause he’s only got one. I give you, the steel-handed stingray, Captain James Hook!

Maybe one of the most known Disney villains, and one with his own movie title, has to be Captain James Hook. While the animation never was one of my favorites, Hook was. I did however, loved the movie Hook in which Dustin Hoffman played the part of the one-handed pirate. The story of Peter Pan (and thus the story of Hook) is actually far older than those two movies and started out as a play called; Peter Pan, or, the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. The play debuted in London on 27 December 1904 and was adapted in a book by the same writer in 1911. The novel follows the play closely, but includes a final chapter not part of the original play.

Heh, betcha you didn’t knew that.

I was in love with this statue the first time I saw it. It looked clean, colorful and oh my, such a cute litl’ Tick-Tock. It just looked exactly like Captain Hook. But, during these almost nine months, Sideshow Collectibles did do a lot of things that made me doubt collecting. But, I kept him, thinking if something was wrong, I could always return him.  And am I glad to tell you that this is one masterpiece!

First off, the box is fricking HUGE! It’s like they took Maleficent’s and Evil Queen’s boxes and melted them together. The box art and design however is nicely done as I have come to expect in this line. Only downside on these boxes is that they are somewhat uniform but not completely. And I like uniformity… Ah well.
Upon opening the box, the reason why it’s so big becomes clear; both the base and Tick-Tock are huge! And I mean really, really huge! Especially that crocodile. I never expected it to be so huge. But hey, I always seem to forget just how huge 1/4th scale actually is until I hold a statue of that size in my hands. But the size really adds to TT’s coolness. I really love that additional figure. He’s awesome!

Overall, you can really tell that this figure has the potential to become a Disney Grail. It doesn’t have any paint misses, TT is awesome, the colors that they used are vibrant and really jump out, it’s Hook in a classic pose and the fabric and details are amazing.  Hook even has those little (have absolutely no idea how they’re called in English, so here’s the Dutch word: ) ‘floskes’ attached to his long socks.

The exclusive is kinda cool and lame at the same time. The only thing that makes this version exclusive is the additional hand, errr, hook with Peter Pan’s hat attached to it. Why is it cool? It’s nicely done and really adds to this already wonderful statue. Why is it lame? It’s just a extra hook, nothing really fancy. I’d preferred something like a lantern with Tink in it… Or you know, something more advanced? Ah, anyway, I still like this statue and the exclusive part and can’t wait for the next in line!

If you haven’t received yours, it can take a while since Sideshow Collectibles is currently checking each and every one of those Hooks. Why? No clue actually… Only thing I know is that there are ‘some production flaws’. What those flaws are, are still unknown… Here’s SSC mail of this problem. I copied it from a fellow collector since my order went just fine.

Unfortunately there has been a slight delay in the Captain Hooks. When we were inspecting the items prior to shipping it was discovered the some of the items may have a production flaw. In lieu of sending you an item that has potential problems, we have halted the orders for the Hook and refunded any payments that were charged. I wasn’t able to get all the details just yet, but I hope to have more information for you soon.

We should have an updated regarding the shipping status soon. Again, I appreciate your patience, and we will be in touch as soon as we have more information. Thank you and have a great day.

So yeah, getting one could be a problem. The orders for this statue are already halted on the website as well (it’s says backorder).

Conclusion
This line is definitely one of my favorite SSC lines. Both the sculpt and finish of the statues in this line is just superb and I’m glad to mention that this also applies to Hook. Tick-Tock is a nice addition to an already wonderful figure. Even if you don’t have the previous two of this line (Evil Queen and Maleficent), this Hook will make an amazing stand-alone piece and I guarantee  you, if you love Disney and/or cartoony Villains/Pirates, you’ll love this piece!

Pictures
I’m definitely going to retake these pictures but after we’ve moved and are able to display him… He’s a pain to get in and out of his box…
