I like sexy figures and one of my favorites are those from Keumaya. These figures take the detailed aspect so far that two of his figures have been banned on the Comiket toy fair in Japan.

I’m talking about Keumaya if he’s a he but truth is, I don’t know. It’s just a guess. What I do know is that it all started with doujins. A doujin is a self-published comic, video game, music and more. Usually when someone says ‘doujin’, people, that know a bit about Japan and it’s crazy culture, will think of comic books and usually hentai (pornographic) ones at that. And they’re usually correct. About the pornographic bit. Certainly when talking about Keumaya.

One of the major, and I’m talking about major problems with the Keumaya figures is that all of his figures are bootlegged. I bought this figure in a local shop and even I’m not sure it’s legit. Normally these come with the original doujin on which they’re inspired but it’s missing with my figures. But I’ve read somewhere that there are two versions, one with and one without the comic book. So still, I’m not sure. But if, if this is a bootleg, it’s a damn nice one since both the quality and the paint apps are sublime. That’s also one of the reasons I like these Keumaya figures. Not only the design is awesome and original, the quality of his figures are amazing.

When we received the box of our two ordered Keumaya’s, I was shocked at the size of them. They’re so tiny! The boxes that is. I quickly discovered the reason why they’re so small, the figures came unassembled. But as always, Japanese never forget to include a guidance pamphlet… in Japanese of course. But luckily, it wasn’t that hard. Just keep a hair blower at your side at all times ’cause you’re going to need it.

As you can see on the last pictures (more specifically the 11th), the upper body connects with the lower part just below those black zigzag belt thingie. Also the arms, hands and head need to be assembled. You can also choose to dress her or keep her naked which is also interesting since she’s quite detailed and frankly quite beautiful as well. The detailed part is also the thing that caused so much trouble on the Comiket Toy Fair but Keumaya ‘solved’ it by putting tape on their private parts and on her nipples. Not sure about the last part, but I believe he did it. It’s a shame that people are so short sighted… I mean, you don’t put tape around David’s manhood do you? It would be an affront to Michaelangelo’s art. And personally, I consider this art as well and so it doesn’t bother me even though I’m a girl and ‘should be’ bothered by it.

When assembled, you’ll notice that next to being detailed and well made, she’s also a lovely 1/6th scale. I like 1/6th scale. There’s only one thing that could have been made better and that’s her top. It’s hard to get it warm enough to bend correctly without damaging it and even harder to let it cool down again in the right position. Still haven’t succeeded yet to get the darn thing correct. Also her skirt doesn’t really fit that well and even though I like her body, I’m not going to display her without the skirt. It adds just that little extra touch, don’t you think?
