Did I Mention I'm Crazy?

May the Elder Gods watch over you.

Pop Culture Shock’s latest addition to their Mortal Kombat Klassic line is going to be non other than the first playable god in the series: Lord Raiden!

Being one of the few original characters in the first Mortal Kombat game, and one of the few constants in all the rest, Raiden is a prominent part in my childhood. I can still remember that my brother rented the game for the SNES whenever we were at our grandparents. Man, I loved playing those fighting games with him. I usually choose or a female character or a random one. And after character selection; start your BUTTON MASHING!!!!!!

Ahem.

For those of you unfamiliar with this character, here’s an excerpt from the Mortal Kombat wiki page:

Raiden is the eternal God of Thunder, protector of Earthrealm, and arguably one of the most powerful characters in all of Mortal Kombat. After the second defeat of Shinnok, he ascended to the status of Elder God. Being a god, he possesses many supernatural abilities, such as the ability to teleport, control lightning and fly. As a god, he is used to thinking in terms of eternity rather than normal human lifespans, and so he has a radically different outlook on life. This is not to say he is incapable of understanding human values and psyches.

With that out of the way, let’s talk about the statue itself.

The statue depicts Raiden as found on the side of the original arcade cabinet or, as I know him best, in his MK2 draperies. While this may not be to the liking for some that prefer the more modern look, it’s a perfect fit with the rest of this line. Both the tailoring as the sculpting look really good but that’s almost a given with Pop Culture Shock these days. And then I haven’t talked about the player 2 version yet! Yes, they’re also releasing a very limited red variant. You know, the color that his original custome had while shooting the live action parts of the game (see below in the gallery). I really like the fact that they made this version as well even though it might not be that familiar with a lot of people.

This item will be available for pre-order on January 19th at 3pm Pacific Time. The regular will set you back 345$ when payed on arrival, 327.75 when you choose a payment plan or 310.50 if opted for full pre-payment. Both the player 1 as the player 2 exclusives will cost you 365$ or 346.75 in payment plan and 328.50 in pre-payment.

I’m conflicted on whether to buy the regular or the exclusive. We normally don’t buy regulars unless it’s a variant we prefer (like the Sony All-Star line from Gaming Heads), but it’s only a light-up. And that’s a feature we almost never ever use. On the other hand, it does look extremely cool.
