Did I Mention I'm Crazy?

Get ready to rummmmmmmble!!!

Darn it, wrong game… Anyhow, this year marks the 25th anniversary of Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise and to celebrate that, they made two great announcements!

Well, at least one of those is of interest for us namely the announcement of the 25th Anniversary Special Edition! The other announcements are the dates for the worldwide tournaments in which you can win amenities, lot’s of cash and lots of loot.
Here’s that official announcement:

Further bringing the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary celebration to its fans, Capcom is currently organizing a series of tournaments throughout the year in locations across the globe that will include over $500,000 worth of cash, non-cash prizing, and amenities. This high-stakes tournament series will culminate in a grand finals event held in San Francisco on Dec. 8, 2012 and will include players who qualify in the preliminary tournaments throughout the year. The tournament series will feature the following monumental titles from the past and present: Street Fighter X Tekken, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.
Revealed today, the list below includes the most current dates and locations (subject to change) for the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary global tournament series:

  • July 28-29 in Austin, TX
  • August 11-12 in the NY area (location pending)
  • August 26 in Taipei, Taiwan (location pending)
  • Mid-September in the Tokyo Region, Japan (date and location pending)
  • September 27-30 in London, England (in conjunction with Eurogamer Expo)
  • October 13-14 in Sao Paulo, Brazil (in conjunction with Brazil Game Show)
  • October 27-28 in Los Angeles, CA
  • October 31 – November 4 in Paris, France (in conjunction with Paris Games Week)
  • December 8 Finals in San Francisco, CA

Adding an extra level of white-knuckled excitement to the competition, the first-place Street Fighter X Tekken player will be crowned champion and be handed the keys to an all-new custom designedScion FR-S Sports Coupe. Capcom has partnered with Scion, Five Axis and Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), to create a one-of-a-kind Street Fighter-themed sports car, complete with video entertainment hardware from SCEA and a modified exterior from Five Axis including a custom FIVE:AD aero kit, spoiler, wheels, as well as many more premiere components from leading automotive aftermarket companies.

Since I’m not that good of a player (long live button mashing!), I won’t be competing. So that’s not really interesting for me… But the special edition certainly is! It will be individually numbered (yes!!) and guaranteed using a Certificate of Authenticity. It will also include some nice stuff listed here:

  • Past and Present Street Fighter games:
    – SF II Turbo HD Remix
    – SF III 3rd Strike Online Edition
    – SF IV Arcade Edition (including all costume DLC)
    – SF X Tekken (including all character and swap costume DLC)
  • Exclusive videos
    – Two-disc BluRay set including a documentary
    – SF IV and Super SF IV anime movies
    – All episodes of SF animated series
    – SF II: the Animated Movie
  • Light-up Ryu statue (8inch tall)
  • 11-disc Soundtrack spanning the past 25 years of Street Fighter
  • 64-page Hardcover Art Book
  • Ryu’s Belt

Especially that 11 disc soundtrack is very interesting but I’m not looking forward to that statue… I wonder who made it. It looks a lot like Sota’s Ryu and I don’t really like Sota. The artbook is also interesting and luckily, I don’t have it yet. For those that are not familiar with artbooks and the likes, this one is probably the same one sold on the Udon site (the Street Fighter Tribute book). I know Udon products and can tell you that they make amazing artbooks and always carefully chose the art represented in the Tribute books.

There were a lot of negative comments on this edition mainly because of the choice of games included. But people apparently forget that the competition used to honor this series will only host battles in these games. So that’s probably why Capcom decided to only include these games. Okay, I admit, I preferred it to hold all the past games since that would make this a true Anniversary edition but still, it’s quite nice. It got only one big problem, it’s only available for North America people… Thank goodness that that wonderful guy that helped us secure Princess Daphne and Kimberly is also willing to help us getting our hands on this edition!

For those that can order them themselves (or those that want the link to get someone else to order it for them), here’s the link to the Xbox 360 and the PS3 version.

Last thing I want to mention about this is that a new Street Fighter 25th Anniversary website will be created which will allow fans to share their stories of how the Street Fighter series has influenced their lives, and will host all details of the anniversary celebration including how to register for the tournament series. The new website will be released soon and will be located at: http://www.streetfighter.com/sf25
