I like watching movies, especially Super Hero/Comic movies. So Saturday evening, after a hard days work, we decided to put on The Green Hornet. I went to sleep happily.
I never saw the original series since it was well before my time (1966-1967) but when I saw the trailers for the 2011 film-adaption, I knew I had to see it.
The story is pretty simple, let’s quote someone from over at IMDB who did such a fine job on a summery:
Playboy Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) becomes the new publisher of Los Angeles’ “The Daily Sentinel” after the sudden death of his father. Britt’s party life is about to change when he and his driver and kung fu expert, Kato (Jay Chou), stop a robbery. With the help of Kato, Britt starts a new career of fighting crime as the masked superhero “The Green Hornet”. Written by Douglas Young (the-movie-guy)
I know, it sounds corny. And actually, it is. That’s what I like about it. It reminds me of the older Batman movies (but not Batman & Robin, that movie was bad… and not good bad, but bad bad). It had nice special effects, good and funny dialogs, Cameron Diaz and really nice cars 😀 What would a girl want more.
I particularly liked the constant bickering between Britt and Kato. Britt sees Kato as nothing more than a side-kick, a butler, a chauffeur for his great hero’s ass. From what I’ve read about the older series, I understand that most people complained about the fact that he did. And in the movie, Kato isn’t content on being just that, he wants to be equal, a partner.
If you like movies with dry-humor (think: being tossed upside down with your car and only saying ‘shit’), lot’s of explosions and old-fashioned hero’s with an edge, you’ll like this one. I know I did.
