Bandai Tamashii Nations announced the Super Robot Chogokin Daizyujin and he is now open for pre-orders. No idea what I’m talking about? Can’t blame you.. but I can help you maybe with this:

The Super Robot Chogokin Daizyujin is also know in the western countries under the name… Megazord. Yes indeed, the first Zord they used in both the Japanese show ‘Super Sentai’ and in the American adaption ‘The Power Rangers’. The main reason for this was that, in this way, the American version could simply re-use the video fragments of the Japanase version for the monster fighting with the Zords. Which of course would save them a lot of money. Recycling is everywhere.
Ready for some nice, relevant but unnecessary trivia? Okay, here we go!
Daizyujin can be translated to the ‘Great Beast God’, what refers to the Dinosaur gods. If you are somewhat familiar with the power rangers you will already know that Megazord consists out five Zords which are not robots. They are agents of the ancient gods and have a spirit of there own. The five primary guardians are:
- the Tyrannosaurus.
- the ZyuMammoth
- the Triceratops
- the SaberTiger
- the Pterodactyl
This figure is pretty special for me personally since it’s one of the major symbols of my childhood. I remember watching the Power Rangers every night and relive the show on the playground the next day. I always played the Blue Ranger, simply because I was the only one with glasses. Sadly, we had a lack of Pink and Yellow Rangers. It probably had something to do with being on a boy’s school. I also spend a lot of my allowance collecting all the toys, especially the Zords. I still have them all and will probably never sell them. To bad that I was so stupid to throw the boxes away. But I’m fixing it, slowly but surely.
The first seasons, until the introduction of the Shogun Zords, were always the best ones in my opinion.
From what I understand is that Tamashii makes the toys and Bandai distributes them. The Super Robot Chogokin is also part die-cast and part molded plastic. This series is directed from the Soul of Chogokin line but is more affordable. That is mainly because of the size, which is around the 14cm (~5.5inch). Other features are the great flexible articulation and extra weapon sets which, sadly, are sold separately. They are also for a more mature public, mainly because these are not really toys. I don’t think they will survive a 6-year-old very long.
From what the pictures are suggesting there are plenty of display options for this Megazord. I can see a normal sword, the sword with lightning, energy strings shooting from his head, the Mammoth shield and different hands. You can’t disassemble the Megazord which makes me sad but I can live with it. I just really hope they will announce a Dragon Zord very soon.
I pre-ordered mine straight away! Just couldn’t resist it. But hey, why would I?
