Did I Mention I'm Crazy?

Flawless Victory

And we’re back with another interview! This time it’s another new company their turn. We talked already about one of their lines and now we’re talking to the people behind Syco Collectibles themselves!

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself? We’d love to know where you live, some of your general interests, hobbies, pets, …
We are a two-man company (50% English & 50% Swedish) who are based in Hong Kong.
Apart from gaming one half is into Formula One and one Football (soccer)

We like quotes. What’s your favorite quote?
‘Treat others the way you wanna be treated’
Don’t know who said it first but it’s something that all of us need to be reminded of more often.

Are you also a gamer? If so, what’s your favorite console of all time? Got any favorite game(s)? (genres are also a-ok)
We are! I remember playing ‘Ice Climbers’ as a kid on the first Nintendo console (ed: NES, also re-released on the GBA as a NES-Classic), which I thought, was awesome! (If anyone reading this says ‘what’? means I’m getting old…) These days it’s PS3 and Mortal Kombat all the way!

Or do you read comics? If so, any favorites?
Not so much now but Batman Dark Night by Frank Miller is a classic and a personal favorite of ours!

We are quite the collectors and if we’d own a shop or something, it only would get worse… So, do you collect yourself? Anything goes.
My partner collects girlfriends, (does that count? 😉 )
To be honest I haven’t collected anything in years but I guess I’m starting now with these Mortal Kombat statues 😉

Where does the name Syco Collectibles come from?
It was just a name that the English half thought about one morning when he woke up. (Maybe I should ask him what happened the night before…) Anyway, I like it; It has a nice ring to it 🙂

How did it all started? And by all we mean all those nice statues that we can buy…
Jonathan has been involved in the ‘collectibles’ business since the beginnings of time (almost) and convinced me who got very excited when I heard the words ‘Mortal Kombat’ and ‘licence’!!

How big is the company now? How many employers? We don’t count freelance… or maybe we do. Your choice whether to include them or not.
We’ve got 2 full time employees so that makes us… hmm, four in total.

Who sculpted the statues? Or is it a different person every time?
We have used 3 guys so far and they all have different skills and strengths.

Why Mortal Kombat?
First of all we like and play the game ourselves. Then the fact that not much has been made in terms of statues, busts etc for MK makes this license even more interesting.

What is Syco’s favorite MK character?
Noob Saibot – Fear me!

If you could pick any license in existence, what license would you choose?
Great question! Hmm, maybe ‘Metal Gear Solid’ but there are so many…

Got any hints on future releases and/or licenses.
Well, the red Ninja Ermac should be up on the site in the near future!
As for new licences, we have something in mind but can’t reveal it yet I’m afraid… exciting stuff though so stay tuned!

We’d love to see the Enchanted Warriors line expanded to other game-universes (like Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur, Tekken, King of Fighters, … )! Any thoughts on that?
I think that be would be awesome! There are certianly enough cool looking female characters out there so yeah – great idea!

Thanks again for your time. And keep those statues coming! If you got anything left to say to the fans, shoot.
Thanks to everyone for your amazing support! A special thank you to all the fans who regularly write comments on our Facebook page giving feedback and suggestions!
We take all of these on board.
Also a special thank you to Tony and Eduardo and the whole team at MK Online! We just wanna say, ‘You Guys Rock’!

Finally a big thanks to you guys at DIMIC for doing this interview with us and we wish you all the best with your excellent blog!
