Did I Mention I'm Crazy?

I fucking hate war wasps.

One of the only companies that makes nice game statues is First 4 Figures. It’s also one of my favorite companies. They made (and are making) excellent Zelda, Sonic and Metroid Prime statues. On of their earliest Metroid Prime statues was the sexy Samus Aran in her Zero Suit. That suit first appeared in the GBA game Metroid: Zero Mission where she was striped of her Power Suit. And I don’t think many will find it a bad thing she was ‘striped’…

The Zero Suit is seen in four other Metroid games: in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime Hunters as part of the good endings, and at the beginning and 100% ending of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Finally, it is seen in several instances in Metroid: Other M. It seems to have replaced the Justin Bailey suit (read: bikini) as the outfit worn by Samus in 100% endings.
If you’ve never played these games, I can tell you, you really missed something! Especially now with the remake on the Wii, it’s one of the better game series.
But I’m not here to review any of these games. I’m here to review the Samus Aran Zero Suit Exclusive made by First 4 Figures. Oh, wait I already mentioned that…

As it is with several of First 4 Figures earlier statues (like with the first Sonic statue), both the paint and the sculpt are a bit crude. I like her, don’t get me wrong, but she isn’t one of my favorite statues. We did however had some incredible luck getting this one since she was waitlisted. But then on Mon, 28 Jun 2010 (01:39:33, yeah still got the mail) we got an email stating that they had a cancellation. Whoopie for us! So we paid and received our first F4F exclusive statue.

She’s rather small, only 9.5 inches/25cm but that’s mainly because we’re used to 1/4th scale now I guess… She’s one of our smallest boxes now. Feels kinda weird… We got the exclusive edition which includes a light-up function and a different base then the regular. I included a picture of the regular base. It’s just a picture I found on the net but you get the point. Also the boxes are different with each version. The exclusive has a purple box while the regular has a light blue one. Also included a picture of the other box.

What I really like about this statue is the blue paint they used. It glitters a bit, like good metallic paint does in good light. Also the pink patterns are well done and really true to the game which should come to no surprise since they used the official game files to recreate her. What I don’t really like is her face. It’s not bad… but not extremely well either. Personally, I think that’s mainly the fault of the hair. It looks a bit flat and more like a wig than actual hair… But that’s just me being picky like always I guess.

As you can see, there are some sloppy paints here and there but nothing to noticeable when she’s just displayed. The main problem area’s are around her gun and with the black linings. Also the gun isn’t that detailed as I might like. But hey, overall, it’s one of the best Samus Aran representations out there.

I don’t know of any problems with this statue. It’s a sturdy one-piece statue that only connects to the base with a single pin and has no wobbly problems at all when inserted. The only problem I know of since we had it ourselves is that the base of the exclusive scratches quite easily. Since the base comes with no protection whatever, the shiny surface on our base has some dents and scratches I suspect are made by people in the factory. Sadly, they couldn’t replace ours.

Conclusion
If you don’t mind getting regulars and if you like to own a statue of Metroid Prime that looks good, I strongly suggest the regular since it’s still in stock even on the F4F website self. She’s also still available at some retailers. Personally, if I still had to have her, I’d probably go for the regular as well since I don’t really care much for light-up functions. But I have to admit that I like the base on this one… Decisions, decisions…
